Premium AR-15 Barrels: The Preferred Approach to Precision

Image

We've spent years manufacturing precision rifle barrels for shooters who expect a lot from their equipment. From custom hunting rifles to dedicated competition builds, we've always focused on producing exceptionally consistent barrels without cutting corners.

Now we're bringing that same approach to the AR-15 platform.

Our goal wasn't simply to add another AR barrel to the market. We wanted to offer something for shooters building a rifle where accuracy, quality, and attention to detail really matter. Whether that's a lightweight hunting rifle, a precision gas gun, or a competitive High Power setup, the barrel should be a component you can count on.

Every Preferred AR-15 barrel starts with the same attention to bore quality, precision machining, and quality control as our custom rifle barrels. We've also put considerable thought into the details that are specific to gas-operated rifles.

Here's a closer look at how we manufacture them and why we chose the configurations in our lineup.

It Starts With the Bore

Image

A premium barrel starts long before we chamber or contour it.

We begin with a honed, stress-relieved, and lapped barrel blank. These processes are fundamental to how we manufacture our precision barrels, and our AR-15 lineup is no exception.

Honing and lapping help us achieve the bore quality, straightness, and consistency we demand. We maintain a tolerance of less than 0.0002 " in our groove diameter and a total indicated runout of less than 0.0001" in the bore. Stress relief helps to maintain consistency during machining and ensures stable POI and grouping when shooting. The result is a carefully prepared blank that's ready for the final stages of production.

All of this is to say that we don't have a separate, lower standard for AR barrels. We build them with the same philosophy we use for the barrels we manufacture for custom bolt-action rifles.

Precision Machining Matters Just as Much

Once the blank is prepared, it's chambered and machined to its final contour. For stainless barrels, this will be the same contour as the finished barrel, and for carbon barrels, this will be the internal steel core over which the carbon is wrapped.

One detail we're particularly proud of is how we handle the external machining.

Our contouring and gas block journal machining are performed in a single machine, maintaining consistent alignment throughout the process. This helps us control the relationship between the barrel contour, gas block journal, and index pin rather than treating them as unrelated machining operations. No more crooked gas blocks or misaligned gas ports, just a barrel that works as it should, every time.

We also pay close attention to gas port quality, using a detailed drilling and reaming cycle to eliminate burrs that destroy accuracy.

These may seem like small details, but they're exactly the kinds of things we believe a premium AR-15 barrel should have.

Simply put: if we knew any better way to build a barrel, we would do it.

A Gas Block Worth Building Around

Image

When deciding how to configure our AR barrels, we knew we wanted to offer a quality adjustable gas system.

We chose the Superlative Arms adjustable gas block because we appreciate the engineering behind its patented Bleed Off system. Rather than relying exclusively on restricting gas flow, the design can vent excess gas from the system entirely. Pair that with a White Oak Armament gas tube, and you get a rock-solid gas system that's reliable and tunable to your exact setup.

We've designed our gas block journals and dimple locations around the Superlative Arms gas block, making it a natural fit. No fighting gas port alignment or set screws that don't sit flush; it just works the way it should the first time.

For an additional $99, we offer the Superlative Arms adjustable gas block paired with a White Oak Armament gas tube matched to the selected barrel's gas system. We'll even install the gas tube and roll pin on the gas block for no extra charge.

Our Stainless Steel AR-15 Barrel Lineup

Image

Our stainless steel AR-15 barrels are built from premium 416R stainless steel, with configurations chosen around the types of rifles we would want to build ourselves.

Most of our stainless barrels feature a medium-weight contour. We wanted enough material to provide good rigidity and help manage point-of-impact movement as barrels heat up, without adding unnecessary weight.

The exception is our 20-inch .223 Wylde High Power barrel, which uses a heavier, competition-oriented contour.

We're starting with five stainless steel configurations, with plans to expand the lineup based on customer demand.

11.5" .338 ARC — Compact, Heavy-Bullet Performance

Image

1:6 Twist | Pistol-Length Gas | 1.40 lbs

Our 11.5-inch .338 ARC barrel is the shortest option in the lineup, designed around the compact, heavy-bullet capabilities of the .338 ARC cartridge.

The .338 ARC is an interesting addition to the AR-15 platform, especially for shooters who want a compact hunting or suppressed rifle. We chose a 1:6 twist rate to suit the long, heavy projectiles associated with this cartridge, especially in subsonic applications, while maintaining excellent accuracy.

At just 1.40 pounds, the barrel keeps weight down in a configuration where compact dimensions are a major part of the appeal.

16" .223 Wylde — The All-Around AR-15

Image

1:7 Twist | Mid-Length Gas | 2.20 lbs

If you're looking for a premium barrel for a general-purpose AR-15, our 16-inch .223 Wylde is a great place to start.

The .223 Wylde chamber accommodates both .223 Remington and 5.56 NATO ammunition, while the 1:7 twist rate makes this barrel particularly attractive to shooters using heavier .22-caliber bullets.

We paired the 16-inch barrel with a mid-length gas system and our medium-weight stainless contour to create a versatile option for hunting, training, and precision-oriented recreational shooting.

It's a straightforward configuration that makes sense for a wide variety of AR-15 builds.

18" .223 Wylde — A Natural Fit for an SPR

Image

1:7 Twist | Rifle-Length Gas | 2.50 lbs

Our 18-inch .223 Wylde barrel is designed for shooters who want a little more emphasis on precision and extended-range performance.

With its 1:7 twist rate and rifle-length gas system, this barrel makes an excellent starting point for an SPR-style rifle.

The medium-weight contour keeps the rifle manageable while providing a solid foundation for precision shooting. Whether you're shooting targets at distance, hunting varmints, or building a rifle around quality match ammunition, this is a particularly versatile combination.

20" .223 Wylde — Built With High Power Competition in Mind

Image

1:7.5 Twist | Rifle-Length Gas | 3.40 lbs

This barrel takes a different approach from our other stainless configurations.

Our 20-inch-class .223 Wylde barrel was developed with NRA High Power competition in mind. Its heavier contour provides additional barrel mass for shooters who prioritize stability, consistency, and managing heat during longer strings of fire.

We manufacture this barrel to an actual length of 19.8 inches, keeping it below the 20-inch maximum specified in relevant Service Rifle competition rules.

The 1:7.5 twist rate is intended for precision shooting with heavier match bullets, and the .223 Wylde chamber provides flexibility when selecting ammunition.

Outside of High Power competition, this barrel also makes a great option for a heavier SPR or precision AR build, where a few additional ounces aren't a concern. This barrel is just as at home in a predator rifle as it is in a competition gun.

18" 6mm ARC — Lightweight and  Effective at Longer Ranges

Image

1:7.5 Twist | Rifle +1 Gas | 2.56 lbs

The 6mm ARC brings impressive long-range capabilities to the AR-15 platform, making it an excellent choice for shooters who want more performance at distance without moving to a larger rifle platform. The 6 ARC really helps the AR-15 punch above its weight class, so we couldn't leave this configuration out.

Our 18-inch stainless 6mm ARC barrel features a 1:7.5 twist rate, selected with the longer, high-ballistic-coefficient 6mm projectiles in mind.

We paired it with a rifle-length +1 gas system and our medium-weight contour for a precision-focused barrel that can function in precision and hunting applications with ease.

At 2.56 pounds, it offers a balance of barrel length, weight, and rigidity for shooters looking to take advantage of what the 6mm ARC has to offer.

Nickel Carbon Fiber AR-15 Barrels

Image

For shooters looking to save weight, we're also introducing a lineup of carbon fiber-wrapped AR-15 barrels.

These feature our distinctive Nickel Carbon Fiber, giving them a unique appearance that stands apart from traditional black carbon fiber barrels.

Our carbon fiber barrels start with the same barrel blanks as our stainless barrels, just in a lighter finished package. The carbon fiber contour is designed to balance rigidity, weight, and performance for rifles that need to be carried and shot in demanding conditions. An 18" carbon fiber barrel is around 0.5lbs lighter than its stainless steel counterpart.

They're especially appealing for lightweight hunting rifles and precision builds where every ounce matters.

18" .223 Wylde - Perfect for a Lightweight SPR

Image

1:7 Twist | Rifle-Length Gas | 2.08 lbs

Our 18-inch .223 Wylde carbon fiber barrel is a great choice for a lightweight SPR or precision hunting rifle. With a 1:7 twist rate and rifle-length gas system, it's well suited for shooters who want a versatile .223 Wylde barrel capable of handling heavier match bullets without adding unnecessary weight.

At just 2.08 pounds, it saves nearly half a pound compared to our 18-inch stainless steel configuration.

18" 6mm ARC - Light and Capable

Image

1:7.5 Twist | Rifle +1 Gas | 2.06 lbs

For shooters looking to build a lightweight, long-range-capable AR-15, our 18-inch 6mm ARC carbon fiber barrel is an excellent option.

The 1:7.5 twist rate is designed around the longer, high-BC 6mm bullets that make the ARC such an impressive cartridge. Combined with our rifle +1 gas system and lightweight carbon fiber construction, this barrel is especially appealing for hunting and precision shooting in the field.

Weighing just 2.06 pounds, it's half a pound lighter than our comparable stainless steel barrel.

20" 6mm ARC - Long Range Performance You Can Carry

Image

1:7.5 Twist | Rifle +1 Gas | 2.20 lbs

Our 20-inch 6mm ARC carbon fiber barrel is designed for shooters who want additional barrel length without the weight typically associated with a longer precision AR barrel.

At just 2.20 pounds, it actually weighs less than our 18-inch stainless steel 6mm ARC barrel.

The combination of a 20-inch barrel, 1:7.5 twist rate, and rifle +1 gas system makes this an excellent choice for a lightweight precision rifle intended for hunting, long-range target shooting, and other applications where both ballistic performance and rifle weight matter.

No Gimmicks. Just Barrels Done Right.

We didn't set out to reinvent the AR-15 barrel or invent a new marketing angle to drive sales. We don't believe our barrels need a slick new acronym or engineering word salad to shoot well.

We simply set out to make the kind of AR barrel we'd want on our own rifles, and used our machining expertise to make it perfect.

That means starting with a quality bore, maintaining tight control over our manufacturing processes, paying attention to details like gas block alignment and gas port quality, and choosing configurations that make sense for their intended applications.

It's the same approach we've taken with our custom rifle barrels, now available for the AR-15 platform.

If you're building a precision AR-15 and want a barrel that matches the quality of the rest of your components, check out our Preferred AR-15 barrel lineup.
